Driving Tips in Cold Weather & Snow
If you have to be out driving in the cold and snowy weather, here are some tips to help keep you safe.
- Keep supplies in your vehicle, such as extra food and water, warm clothing, a flashlight, an ice scraper, blankets, medications, and more.
- Tires should be properly inflated and have adequate tread
- Keep at least half a tank of fuel in your vehicle at all times.
- Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
- Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface, such as ice and snow.
- Increase your following distance to five or six seconds. This increases the margin of distance needed if you have to stop.
